Select a Bicycle to Fit Your Needs

Before your begin shopping for a bike,you will need to give some thought as to what type of riding you will be doing.
Are you going to commute to work,wanting to improve your fitness, do a-bit of mountain biking, looking at doing a triathlon or maybe just trying to keep up with the kids at the park?
These days there are different bikes designed for certain types of riding.If you haven't been on or bought a bike for a long time this can be very confusing.
This is a basic guide to help make it easier for you to understand what bikes are out there.

Road Racing Bikes
: are designed for speed and use on roads.They have a lightweight frame usually made from alloy and/or carbon with 700C wheels.

Mountain Bikes: have weight and tread you need for off road use.They have 26" wheels,can have up to 27 speeds and have front and/or rear suspension .

Hybrid Bikes:Make great all purpose bicycles.Hybrids allow riders a more comfortable upright seating position than mountian bikes, lightweight frames make them perfect for use on the pavement, and they can handle light off roading on dirt and gravel.They usually have front suspenion, 26" or 700C wheels,some have suspenion seatposts and a adjustable handlebar stem. 

Cross/Commuter Bicycles: For people who are wanting to ride to work on a regular basis, or for those just wanting to get out there and improve their fitness.They have lightweight frames, 700c wheels, fatter tyres than a road racing bike and some come with front suspenion and disc brakes.

Freeride/DH Bikes: These bikes are for riders who enjoy the big jumps and the speed of going downhill while trying to miss trees, fast!

BMX Bikes:
 Older kids and adults love these bikes. There are three styles of BMX, Freestyle(skatepark),dirtjump and race.

Kids Bikes:Bikes geared toward younger children from about 1 1/2 to 10 years old.They have low step over frames, rear coaster foot brake,chain guard and some models come with training wheels.

Tandem Bicycles:Great for a day in the park,tandems have enough room for two.Share your pedalling power!

Track Bikes/Fixies: These are for people who enjoy riding bikes with no brakes and gears.Track bikes were designed for racing around a velodrome.Then the enthusists out there thought why not take them on the road and have some fun.
